Mozilla blocks Flash by default on its Firefox browser due to security concerns

Today Mozilla the company behind Firefox web browser has decided to block Flash by default on all versions of its browser. On its support pages, Mozilla said the block would remain until “Adobe releases an updated version to address known critical security issues”. 

Security has been a key issue with Flash and last month attackers were able to take control of computers using vulnerability in the plug-in and Adobe has been constantly updating Flash to fix some of the security issues. Apple has been one of the key industry player to stop support for Flash in the very early devices. With iOS, Apple embraced HTML5 as the platform and has been pushing HTML5 for long now.

Echoing the similar message Facebook’s chief security officer Alex Thomas tweeted “It is time for Adobe to announce the end-of-life date for Flash and to ask the browsers to set kill bits on the same day.”

Mozilla has advised users to stop Flash and rather let it work only with trusted websites. According to analysis firms that monitor desktop browsers, Firefox is the third most popular desktop browser.
