New Moto G is now waterproof and customisable

Motorola has unveiled the latest update to its popular Moto G smartphone, offering the usual combination of low price and premium specs, but with added water-resistance and the ability to customise the device using Motorola's Moto Maker service. When Google first launched the Moto G in November 2013, it was widely praised for its low price, quad-core processor and HD screen, offering a wallet-friendly alternative to some of the premium devices on the market at the time, like Apple's iPhone 5c. Less than a year later, Motorola updated the device with a bigger screen, better cameras and microSD storage expansion, and raised the price from £135 to £145. Now the company has unveiled the third-generation Moto G – the first to be launched since Lenovo bought Motorola from Google for $2.9bn (£1.8bn) in 2014. The new Moto G runs Android Lollipop and has a 5-inch HD display, all-day battery life and built-in SD card support. It ...

Samsung's Galaxy Tab S2 is slimmer, smaller and squarer

Samsung has  revealed  its new 8-inch and 9.7-inch Galaxy Tab S2 models, and they're considerably different from last year. As revealed by a leak  yesterday , it shrunk both of last year's models  and killed the widescreen (16 x 10) aspect ratio, instead giving them an iPad-like 4 x 3 format. The company said that'll help "recreate the viewing experience of browsing through traditional print media," and make it easier to read e-books and web pages. On the other hand, less of the screen is now available for watching movies, particularly since both Galaxy Tab S2 models have also taken a step down in resolution from QuadHD to 2,048 x 1,536. Obviously, Samsung thinks people use their tablets for reading more often than watching movies. It's placed extra emphasis on that with the new Super AMOLED screen, which has a reading mode that "modifies the screen's brightness level to help users read content for longer periods of time." Helping as well is t...

Samsung unveils Galaxy Tab S2, world's thinnest tablets

Samsung has announced Galaxy Tab S2 range of flagship tablets, which have taken away the title of world's thinnest tablet from iPad Air 2, Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet, and Dell Venue 8 7000. The South Korean giant said that its new tablets will be available August onwards, but did not announce the prices. Both Samsung tablets come fitted in a metal frame that measures just 5.6mm in thickness, whereas the previous record was tied between the Apple, Sony and Dell models at 6.1mm. Taking cue from last year's two iPads, the new Galaxy Tab S2 models also come with integrated fingerprint scanners. Compared to last year's Galaxy Tab S 10.5 and 8.4, the new tablets are smaller in screen size, with one sporting a 9.7-inch display and the other featuring an 8-inch screen. While the former weighs 389gram, the latter weighs 265gram, which makes them both the lightest in their respective categories. Both variants have Super AMOLED displays at 2048x1536p resolutions (just as Apple i...
